Biography

Simon started his career as an apprentice to Joe Dunton in 1978.

After a period of as a Clapper/Loader, Focus Puller and Aerial Camera assistant, Simon got his first break as an Aerial Cameraman in 1987 working on the Holmes Associates TV Drama series “Piece of Cake” a story about a spitfire squadron in the Battle of Britain.

In 1991 he was tasked by Werner Herzog to make a documentary about the Kuwaiti Oil fires still burning since the end of the first Gulf War. The film was shown as part of the BBC fine cut series and titled “Lessons of Darkness.” The camerawork received critical acclaim both at home and abroad and is still held up today as being some of the most iconic images of the First Gulf War.
